McDonald’s corporate office likely won’t provide details about Vice President Kamala Harris‘s employment in the early 1980s, according to a franchisee.

The fast-food chain usually avoids political involvement. This new communication with owners marked the first mention of Harris’ claims about working at a California McDonald’s while in college.

A franchisee, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “McDonald’s tries hard to stay out of politics.” They doubted the company would search through old files, as records are typically kept for only seven years.

Harris could potentially validate her claims by providing old pay stubs or tax returns, or by sharing memories from former coworkers. However, maintaining proof from so long ago is difficult.

Despite her claims of operating the cash register, ice cream machine, and fryer at McDonald’s in the summer of 1983, specific details remain sparse.

Wanda Kagan, a high school acquaintance, confirmed that Harris worked at McDonald’s, recalling her mother discussing it years ago. The Kagan family and the franchisee have not responded to additional inquiries about Harris’ job history.
