Musk-backed Pro-Trump group has outreach and reporting issues

REUTERS – Elon Musk’s political action committee, America PAC, is struggling to meet doorknocking targets to help re-elect Donald Trump in key states like Wisconsin and Nevada. There are claims that some canvassers have falsely reported their voter contacts.

As the election approaches, managers have noted that canvassers are far from reaching their goal of contacting 450,000 voters by November 5. A canvasser in Wisconsin, Alysia McMillan, expressed concern that failing to meet targets could jeopardize Trump’s chances. She was recently fired by one contractor but quickly hired by another.

In Arizona, similar warnings have been issued. Chris Young, a Musk aide, has been auditing doorknocking efforts in Nevada due to reports of inflated numbers. However, some in America PAC claim that the Wisconsin shortfall is exaggerated and they will meet their goals.

America PAC focuses on convincing “low propensity voters” to turn out. Musk has donated over $75 million to the PAC, integral to Trump’s campaign, and has openly supported him this year, even suggesting a potential government role for Musk if Trump wins.

Despite the funding, organizational issues persist, partly due to challenges in retaining canvassers. Pay for these roles is low, and some workers are not reimbursed for expenses. Reports indicate that canvassers have been caught misrepresenting their results, leading to job terminations.

Recently, America PAC raised hourly pay to attract more canvassers, stating on its updated website that compensation starts at $30 per hour, with performance bonuses.
