A note from Goldman Sachs about the upcoming Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) report:

  • Data will cover September 2024
  • Report is scheduled for October 31, 2024

Goldman Sachs predicts a 12-month inflation rate of 2.04%, rounding down to the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%. The PCE report will provide insights into inflation trends, including both headline and core PCE indices, which the Fed closely monitors for policy decisions. The PCE is considered the Fed’s preferred inflation measure.

However, core PCE is expected to be 2.6%, excluding food and energy, and is a better indicator of long-term trends. This would be lower than the 3.3% reported in the CPI last week.
