(MENAFN) Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency platform launched on Tuesday but struggled to attract investors. Only a small fraction of the 20 billion digital currency units, priced at 1.5 cents each to raise $300 million, were sold—just 3% by Tuesday evening.

The currency offers not only cryptocurrency functions but also voting rights for platform management decisions. Despite this, low sales were attributed to technical problems on the company’s website, which may have discouraged potential buyers.

The World Liberty Financial platform aims to facilitate lending and borrowing of cryptocurrencies, similar to popular services like Aave. Trump, who had previously criticized cryptocurrencies as a “fraud,” is now promoting himself as a “Bitcoin president” in light of his presidential run.
