(MENAFN– IANS) New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar coined the term “forex drain,” saying that $6 billion has been lost from India’s foreign exchange reserves due to 1.3 million students studying abroad in 2024.

He warned students against blindly following trends and emphasized the need to focus on improving local education instead.

“Imagine how much better our education system could be if this money went to our institutions,” he stated at an event in Sikar, Rajasthan.

Dhankhar urged schools to inform students about the realities of studying abroad and the rankings of their chosen colleges.

“Institutions and industry leaders should hold seminars to show young people the opportunities available in India,” he added.

He also encouraged wealthy Indians to invest in education in smaller cities and rural areas, seeing this as crucial for the country’s progress.

Moreover, he stressed using technology to enhance education quality, saying it would help overcome limitations in teacher availability.

Dhankhar highlighted that education is key to achieving equality and mitigating social issues, noting the need to adapt to disruptive technologies like AI and blockchain.

He urged the youth to trust in the nation and counter forces that prioritize their own interests over the country’s well-being, as India aims to become a developed nation by 2047.
