TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba plans to create a larger supplementary budget than last year’s 13.1 trillion yen ($87.6 billion) to support the economy, according to the Nikkei.
Ishiba stated, “I want a bigger supplementary budget than last year,” during a campaign speech for the upcoming lower house election.
Earlier this month, he instructed his ministers to prepare a plan to help households struggling with rising living costs. Since taking office on October 1, his priority has been to overcome the deflation that has affected the economy for 30 years.
The new support package will include cash payments to low-income families and subsidies for local governments.
