BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. The European Union is boosting its collaboration with Turkmenistan through programs aimed at supporting its green economy and improving trade conditions, according to the European Commission.

The EU is investing 11 million euros from 2021 to 2024 to help Turkmenistan develop its green economy. This includes efforts to reduce methane emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and promote renewable energy.

The initiative also aims to improve the business environment, with special focus on supporting women and youth in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Additionally, the facility assists Turkmenistan in joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) to help integrate it into global trade.

These efforts are part of a broader EU-Central Asia strategy established in 2019, focused on cooperation, resilience, and prosperity. The strategy addresses critical areas like water, energy management, and economic connectivity.

The 19th EU-Central Asia Ministerial meeting in Luxembourg scheduled for October 23, 2023, will discuss further measures to deepen ties.

The EU’s support for Turkmenistan highlights its commitment to fostering regional relations and sustainable development through a balance of environmental and economic reforms.
